PROFILE

Profile

Ryunosuke Kazama (風間龍之輔) is a Japanese dentist specialising in chairside CAD/CAM ceramic restoration. He is the founder and director of Kazama Dental Clinic in Ginza, Tokyo.

He began clinical and laboratory work on CEREC in 1999 at Niigata University, and received his PhD in 2004 from the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Niigata University, for a comprehensive study on the fit of dental CAD/CAM systems. In 2010 he studied at the University of Zurich as a visiting researcher under Prof. Werner H. Mörmann, the inventor of CEREC — to date the only dentist from Japan to have trained directly in that research group.

He currently serves as Clinical Professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry, Matsumoto Dental University, and as part-time Lecturer in the Department of Advanced Prosthodontics, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Medical and Dental University). He has taught over 6,000 dentists in Japan since 2003.

His work covers the marginal fit and long-term survival of CAD/CAM ceramic restorations, adhesive luting, all-ceramic crowns and inlays, and metal-free treatment. He contributed a chapter to State of the Art of CAD/CAM Restorations: 20 Years of CEREC (Quintessence Publishing, London, 2006), edited by W. H. Mörmann.
